The 74LS48 IC has active low outputs that can directly drive common-anode LEDs or incandescent indicators. It takes a binary-coded decimal as input and converts it to a pattern that can be used to control a seven-segment display that can display digits from 0 to 9. The 74LS48 IC has a large operating voltage range, a wide operating temperature range, and directly interfaces with CMOS, NMOS, and TTL. TTL is always the output of the IC. As a result, it’s simple to interface with other TTL devices and microcontrollers. The IC 74LS48 is smaller in size and has a much higher speed, making it suitable for use in a wide range of devices.
The IC 74LS48’s output is determined by the input. The four major input ports help to generate fixed output states based on specified input data. The decimal zero is represented by 0000 in a 4-bit binary digit, and the decimal nine is represented by 1001. Furthermore, all values from 1 to 8 are represented by a fixed four-digit binary code. Whenever an input on the IC ranges from 0 to 9, the output value is determined by the common cathode 7 segments.
This is a combinational logic circuit that receives a decimal digit in BCD and converts it to a seven-segment decoder (input). And it creates the proper outputs for the segments to display the decimal digit input.
