The Dual Monster Moto Shield VNH3ASP30 DC Motor Driver 2x14A (Peak 30A) was designed as a ramped-up version of our Ardumoto motor driver shield. The basic L298 H-bridge was replaced with a pair of VNH3ASP30 full-bridge motor drivers in this monster moto shield. This board is capable of driving a pair of high-current motors as it is also beefed up the support circuitry. The VIN and motor out are pitched for 5mm screw terminals (not included), making it easy to connect larger gauge wires. This enhances the motor to drive a pair of high-current motors while the VIN and motor have been adjusted for connecting larger wires more easily.
VNH3ASP30 is based on a full-bridge motor driver designed explicitly for a wide range of automotive applications. The VNH3ASP30 consists of a dual monolithic high side driver and two low side switches. The high side driver switches are designed using the STMicroelectronics well known and proven proprietary VIPower M0 technology. Thereby ensuring efficient integration on the same die of a true Power MOSFET with an intelligent signal/protection circuitry. The INA and INB pins control the direction of each motor. And the PWM pins are used to turn the motors on or off. Finally, the current sense (CS) pins will output approximately 0.13 volts per amp of output current.
Note:
While using this module in extreme high-demand applications, a heat-sink or fan is used to improve the thermal performance. And IS solder directly to the board instead of using a screw terminal (in addition to the myriad other complications present in a high-current system). However, when using the board at currents up to 6A the chips will barely become noticeably warm.
