A GAS sensor or a GAS Detector is defined as a chemical sensor that detects/measures the concentration of gas in its vicinity. MQ3 sensor also known as Alcohol gas sensor ideal for the detection or measuring of Alcohol, Benzine, CH4, Hexane, LPG, CO. It offers very good sensitivity and a fast response time makes it ideal such as used in gas leakage alarm systems. The MQ3 sensor operates at a voltage of 5V DC and draws around 900mW. It provides a lower conductivity to clean the air as a gas sensing material.
MQ3 sensor is a Tin oxide semiconductor sensor designed explicitly to detect Alcohol concentration from 0.05 mg/L to 10 mg/L.  It offers very good sensitivity and fast response to alcohol. When the target gas contains the content of alcohol, the sensor’s conductivity is higher alongside the gas concentration rising. As MQ3 gas sensor offers high sensitivity to Alcohol and has good resistance to disturb of gasoline, smoke, and vapour. This sensor provides an analogue resistive output supported alcohol concentration and digital output.
The resistance varies inside the sensor on the detection of alcohol. Therefore more the alcohol content exhibits the lower the resistance. Thus the alcohol content is measured by measuring this resistance. As a result, the sensor and load resistor in the module form a potential divider, and therefore the lower the sensor resistance, the upper the voltage reading is going to be.
Applications:
- Gas level over-limit alarm
- Breathalyzer
- Portable alcohol detector
- Stand-alone/background sensing device
- Environmental monitoring equipment
